Emily Ducharme: I am a Xavier Alumni from the class of 2011, and graduated with a duel Bachelors degree in Marketing (BSBA) and Fine Arts (BA). At Xavier I specialized in Sculpture-welding, and Ceramics-wheel thrown and hand built pieces. Most of my work has been inspired by by my love and passion for the ocean, my business degree, the art nouveau movement, and multiple artists including Elaine Coleman. My business degree has taught me from the beginning the importance of purpose and functionality for art. For my senior thesis I chose bowls to be the focus of my work, because of a bowl’s functionality and practicality.From the waves to the shells beneath them, the ocean inspired the textures, colors, and shapes of each functional ceramic bowl and the welded stands that support them.
